Zero Books was established in 1993 as an independent publisher of poetry and essays. Its initial publications included the anthologies Tales from the Heartland and Confessions of the Damned in 1994. Zero Books has recently centered its efforts and proceeds on combatting illiteracy in the United States by funding public education programs and continuing education seminars for adults.
Mission Statement: To facilitate the expansion of poetry into mainstream culture by inspiring " working class poets " to write, perform and publish poetry both electronically and in hard copy formats.

Zero Books, in partnership with Athena Books of Kalamazoo, Michigan is launching a series of poetry readings and collaborative workshops for the poetry novice and enthusiast. The first reading will take place Saturday, November 20 at Athena Books, 154 S. Kalamazoo Mall, at 4:00pm. An open mic will follow the featured reader, William Craft, Jr.; Zero Books will also present an overview of the organization.
